The brains behind the product, which is called Polar Seal, is a company called Fillony. It used a material that features a mix of elastane and polyester for the garment, which is inspired by the jackets worn by fighter pilots.
A lightweight, flexible heating element had been embedded directly into the fabric to provide two heating zones, one of the lower back and one of the upper back. The wearer controls the heat using a button attached to the wrist of the garment. They are able to select from three different heat levels and can activate the two zones separately or simultaneously.
The company has said the zones heat up in under 10 seconds and can offer heat for up to eight hours, enough for a full day on the slopes.
Fillony set a funding target of HK$390,000 ($50,000) on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. At the time of writing, it had already exceeded this target with more than 330 backers having pledge a total of HK$400,000 ($51,000).
