Decathlon and Under Armour are among the big-name sports companies that are preparing to begin sourcing Ethiopian-made clothing, inward investment body the Ethiopian Investment Commission has said.

The organisation said in recent comments to news agency Reuters that overseas investment in the textile industry in Ethiopia rose from just over $160 million in fiscal year 2013-2014 to more than $1.3 billion in 2016-2017. Ethiopia’s financial year runs from July-July.

According to the Ethiopian Investment Commission, Velocity, a Dubai-based apparel company that supplies Under Armour, is preparing to source product in the African country. It also said Decathlon is another of more than 100 companies in total that now have Ethiopia on their sourcing atlas.
