New figures from the European Commission show that European Union (EU) equipment manufacturers exported 7.3 million pairs of skis or individual snowboards in 2016. Almost 60% of this equipment, 4.3 million items, was traded between European Union countries.

The figures also show that exports of this type of product from the EU have fallen by more than 30% in the last ten years.

Austria was the biggest EU exporter of skis and snowboards, shipping 2.5 million items in 2016, followed by the UK with just over 1 million. Germany was some way behind in third place with 674,000 items exported. Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovenia were also in the top ten.

Outside the EU, the country that imported most EU-made boards and skis was the US.
