Nepal: Green light for new garment processing zone

12/01/2018
The Nepalese government has given clearance for the construction of a new garment processing zone in in the country’s Bara region. It is expected to cost nearly $25 million to build and will be completed by 2018-19.

The zone is intended to boost Nepal’s production of readymade garments and reduce manufacturing costs. This would make products from the country more competitive in the international market.

Statistics from Nepali’s Trade and Export Promotion Centre show that the country’s exports of readymade garments have been declining in recent years. For the last fiscal year, export earnings from these products fell nearly 10%.
