All-female team completes Antarctic first

22/01/2018
A team of women from the UK has become the first all-female group to cross Antarctica using only muscle power.

After spending 62 days on the ice, the six members of the so-called ‘Ice Maiden Expedition’ reached the finish line at Hercules Inlet on January 20.

The women skied a total of 1,700 kilometres, travelling coast to coast navigating crevasse fields and pulling sleds weighing 80 kilos. Temperatures hit as low as minus-40 degrees Celsius.

Norway’s Aclima and Mountain Equipment from the UK were among the outdoor brands that supplied clothing and equipment for the exhibition.
