France’s manufacturing sector lost more than 500,000 jobs between 2006 and 2015, according to data from the country’s national statistics office (INSEE).

In December 2015, the sector had 123,300 companies and 2.7 million workers. These numbers were 18% and 16% lower, respectively, than in 2006.

The textile and garment industry was one of the worst-hit areas in terms of job losses. INSEE’s figures show that 35% of jobs in this industry disappeared between 2006 and 2015.
