Archroma announces new head of performance textiles

08/03/2018
Textile chemicals manufacturer Archroma has appointed Marcos Furrer as president of innovation and of its brand and performance textile specialties business. He will be based at Archroma’s headquarters in Reinach, Switzerland.

Mr Furrer will take over from Thomas Winkler who will retire at the end of March 2018 after more than 30 years in the textile industry, the last 12 of which have been at Archroma and Clariant (from which Archroma was spun out in 2013).

Ironically, Marcos Furrer’s career has been entirely at Clariant until now and until just before New York-based  private investment firm SK Capital acquired Clariant’s textile business in 2013 and renamed it Archroma, that was the division he worked in.

He started as a product manager on sulphur dyes in 1997 and then became head of textile dyes and textile chemicals in Mexico in 2001. He became global head of Clariant cellulosic dyes product group in 2005 before becoming head in Latin America of the textiles business unit in 2007 and of the textiles business unit for the whole of the Americas in 2009.

Just before it sold its textiles business, Marcos Furrer joined Clariant’s plastics and pigments business unit and carried out a number of senior roles there between 2012 and now. Speaking of Mr Furrer’s decision to return to textile chemicals with his new role at Archroma, chief executive, Alexander Wessels said: “Marcos Furrer was rather an obvious choice when we started to look for a potential successor for Thomas Winkler. He has the right combination of strong textile expertise and leadership skills that we need.”
