Indorama to make Brazilian acquisition

21/03/2018
Industrial group Indorama is to acquire Brazilian polyester fibre manufacturer M&G Polimeros. M&G runs Brazil’s largest polyester plant, with a capacity of 550,000 tonnes per year, in Ipojuca, 50 kilometres south of Recife, in the state of Pernambuco.

The transaction is expected to be completed in second quarter 2018, subject to regulatory approvals.

Indorama said at the time of the announcement that this acquisition in Brazil is in line with its strategy to extend its market position and expand its global footprint in key markets with high growth potential.

It said it regards South America as an important emerging market with domestic demand for polyester growing at around 5%. Today’s per capita consumption of polyester is comparatively low at 2.8 kilos, the industrial group said, and has “great potential for growth”.
