France mulls ban on the destruction of unsold textile inventory
27/04/2018
The ‘Roadmap towards a circular economy’ was unveiled this week by French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe.
Proposal number 15 in the 50-point list is dedicated to unsold textile products, with the suggestion that they are banned.
The document released by the government indicated that its intention was to “draw on the lessons learned from the fight against food waste” to ensure that the unsold inventory from the textile industry is no longer thrown away or destroyed.
This is the only point which directly applies to the textile industry.
Mr Philippe has suggested the measures listed in the roadmap will be translated into legislative measures in the run up to 2019. In the meantime, the government has called for the “voluntary engagement” of companies in the sectors concerned.
