Unifi has been named as the inaugural business recipient of a new sustainability award University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. The school runs a centre for sustainable enterprise.

It presented the award to Unifi at a special event on May 10 and said it wanted to recognise the company’s leadership and best practice in environmental and business sustainability, of which its Repreve performance fibre, made from post-consumer plastic bottles, is a good example.

“Unifi is honoured to be recognised by the University of North Carolina as a leader in developing innovative, environmentally friendly practices as part of our business model,” said chief executive,  Kevin Hall, on accepting the award. “We are proud to have partnered with the world’s leading brands to transform more than 10 billion bottles into performance fibres, and are on track for 30 billion by 2022.”
