Vaude wins international environmental award for the second time
Outdoor brand Vaude has received a GreenTec Award 2018, an international environmental awards programme, at the IFAT environmental technology exhibition in Munich.

Judges picked out Vaude as the winner in the sports category for its Green Shape Core collection, which relies on natural materials and seeks to tackle the problem of microplastic waste.

The collection comprises 19 products and includes apparel, shoes and backpacks for a broad range of outdoor activities. About 90 % of the materials used in the production processes are biobased, recycled or purely natural materials. Unconventional, renewable raw materials such as cow’s milk, wood and castor oil are also used. Highlights include a newly developed fleece material in which Tencel is used on the inner surface. Any microparticles from the products in the collection that enter the global water cycle during washing will biodegrade completely in seawater, Vaude has said.

Chief executive, Antje von Dewitz, said in reaction to the award: “This is a great tribute to our commitment to sustainability, which is passionately supported by our entire team. With our Green Shape Core collection we offer products that counteract global problems such as the waste of resources, environmental pollution or microplastics in our seas and also offer solutions to these urgent challenges. This demonstrates that we are finding innovative and far-sighted solutions with sustainable concepts.”

This is the second time Vaude has won a GreenTec Award. It was also among the winners in 2016 in recognition of the sustainable conversion in carried out at its headquarters in southern Germany.
