Australian cotton industry reaches out to start-ups

04/06/2018
Australia’s Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) and the Australian Cotton
Conference have teamed up to offer start-up businesses with an interest in cotton a chance to showcase their ideas to more than 2,000 delegates during the 2018 conference, which takes place from August 7-9, with Gold Coast as the venue.

A new element, Startup Alley, will be part of the event for the first time this year, dedicated to showcasing emerging technologies that are being developed specifically for cotton and agriculture.

Applications are now open for businesses, teams and entrepreneurs who have an idea or product
that could make an impact on cotton production or the cotton supply chain to participate in
Startup Alley. Twelve places are up for grabs.

Start-ups selected will have a dedicated booth for on Startup Alley, an opportunity to pitch their businesses to conference delegates during a special session called ‘Pitch from the Paddock’, support and coaching in the lead-up to the pitch session from CRDC partner and start-up expert Cotton-X, plus full three-day registration for the conference.

“We’re very pleased to be able to partner with Cotton-X on this exciting new initiative,” said CRDC executive director, Bruce Finney. “As an investor in innovation, digital and disruptive technologies and entrepreneurs, CRDC is constantly on the lookout for innovations that will further push the boundaries of Australian cotton. This is a great way to showcase the exciting ideas and innovations emerging from the start-up space, and to connect cotton growers seeking solutions with
businesses who may be able to help.”

Mr Finney said the organisers are particularly keen to hear from start-ups with “near-to-market innovative products or services with great application to cotton production or the supply chain and strong customer validation”.

Applicants have until June 15 to submit their entries and can use this link to do so.
