The Australian cotton industry will support OzHarvest, an organisation that collects excess food to provide meals for people in need, as its charity partner for the 2018 Australian Cotton Conference.

At the event, which takes place from August 7-9 with Gold Coast as the venue, conference delegates will aim to raise $30,000 for the charity. This would be enough to fund 60,000 meals for struggling families.

OzHarvest recently opened a chapter in Toowoomba, Queensland, an area of the country with many cotton farming communities. On announcing support for the organisation, Fleur Anderson, chair of the conference committee, said: “We can’t forget that many people in our rural communities don’t know where their next meal is coming from. It’s great to see a regional OzHarvest chapter in Toowoomba and perhaps there may be others in cotton communities in future.”
