BCI welcomes new guide to sourcing more sustainable cotton

29/06/2018
Chief executive of Forum for the Future, Dr Sally Uren, and the head of sustainable raw materials at the C&A Foundation, Anita Chester, teamed up at the 2018 Better Cotton Initiative conference to launch CottonUp, a guide to sourcing more sustainable cotton.

At the conference, which took place in Brussels from June 26-28, they said CottonUp would equip retailers and brands with the information they need to increase the volumes of more sustainable cotton that they source.

They said that sourcing more sustainable cotton is essential to reducing the commodity’s negative impacts and ensuring future supply. However, they acknowledged that researching the best available sourcing options is often resource-intensive.

The CottonUP guide shares direct experiences and learning from companies that have already navigated “the complex challenges of sourcing more sustainable cotton”, they explained, across multiple standards such as organic, Fairtrade, the Better Cotton Initiative and others.
