SGS launches new comfort testing services

Geneva-headquartered testing and certification body SGS has launched a new range of comfort and athleisure wear services for the textile and footwear industries.

It will now offer a full range of testing and support for comfort, performance, functional, and sportwear brands and suppliers.

SGS has taken this decision in response to the rise of the athleisure trend. “This trend has moved the apparel industry to another level of innovation, such as high-tech fibres, materials, and finishing, coupled with highly fashionable design,” it said, adding that performance is no longer the sole focus as comfort becomes increasingly important.

The company has said the textile and apparel industry needs a “common definition” of comfort in order to fulfil the needs of consumers. Through its new testing services, SGS aims to define comfort in terms of thermoregulation, skin sensation, body movement and phycological comfort.

It plans to use its state-of-the art testing facilities and expertise to help test fabric, fabrics systems and finished garments to assess the different aspects of comfort.
