Event organiser Messe Frankfurt has said it expects 250 exhibitors from 25 countries at its Africa Sourcing and Fashion Week exhibition, which will take place for the fourth time from October 1-4, with Addis Ababa as the venue. It expects 4,000 visitors from the entire supply chain for cotton, other textiles and apparel.

Messe Frankfurt pointed out in the build-up to the event that, while Ethiopia currently employs 47,000 people in the textile sector, government plans are in place to increase this number to 350,000 in the next five years. It called Africa Sourcing and Fashion Week a platform for the entire continent of Africa.

“Ethiopia plans to establish itself as a new centre for the international textile industry,” the exhibition organiser said. “For 2018, the government expects an export volume of $1 billion. By 2025 the country should reach a middle-income status and become the largest production hub in Africa.”
