Chinese textile groups step up investment in Ethiopia

The China Chamber of Commerce for Textiles (CCCT) led a delegation of Chinese textiles firms on a visit to Ethiopia at the end of August. The visit was organised by the International Trade Centre (ITC).

During the trip, the Chinese companies met heads of Ethiopian textile firms, leaders of the Ethiopian Textile and Garment Manufacturers Association, and government officials. 

According to local media reports, a number of Chinese delegates finalised sourcing agreements and explored investment partnerships with their Ethiopian counterparts. This included one Chinese group agreeing a deal to source beach shorts from a textile factory located on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
