Hemp fibre specialist wants to attract smaller brands

The Chinese company, which has been producing fabrics that it calls “fashion right and eco-friendly” since 1999, is a supplier to major brands such as Patagonia and Canada’s Mountain Equipment Co-op. Company owner, Ding Hongliang, said at Intertextile Shanghai that he wants smaller brands to consider sourcing from Hemp Fortex too.
It works with organic cotton and recycled polyester too, but as the name suggests, hemp is the company’s main focus. Hemp’s appeal, the company has said, is that it is resistant to pests and grows too densely to permit weed growth, so it needs no pesticides, herbicides or chemicals of any kind. It also likes the fibre’s strength, its natural antimicrobial and UV-reistance properties, its comfort, breathability and coolness to touch.
“We want to attract smaller brands in all parts of the work,” Mr Ding said at the exhibition. “We have set up warehouses in Los Angeles, in Nuremberg and in Melbourne and there is no minimum order.”
