AkzoNobel specialty chemicals group unveils new identity

AkzoNobel’s specialty chemicals group, recently acquired by private equity groups Carlyle and GIC, has relaunched with a new name, Nouryon. The rebranding comes a little over a week after GIC and Carlyle closed their acquisition of the company.

Chief executive, Charlie Shaver, whom the new owners announced in August, said: “We are starting from a great position. We have a great set of businesses, leadership positions across our portfolio, long-term customer partnerships, and a dedication to continuous improvement and innovation. As an independent company we can accelerate our progress on all fronts and take our rightful place alongside other industry leaders.”

Nouryon has a history that stretches back nearly 400 years and its new name and brand identity reflect that heritage. Noury & Van der Lande, a company formed in the first half of the nineteenth century and one of the companies that helped form AkzoNobel, was one of the first companies to realise the important role chemistry could play in everyday life.

Nouryon’s chief communications officer, Vivi Hollertt, said the company’s employees are “especially proud of our heritage” and said this had been an important element in creating the new brand identity.
