Vietnam’s footwear exports are on the rise

Vietnam’s footwear exports were worth nearly $11.8 billion in the first nine months of 2018, an increase of 10.5% year on year, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In 2017, Vietnam exported more than one billion pairs of shoes for a total value of $14.7 billion. It is on track to exceed that figure this year.

The country appears well placed to take advantage of the ongoing trade dispute between the US and China, the most important global source of footwear.

For example, earlier this year adidas revealed that Vietnam has overtaken China as its main supplier of footwear. It said 44% of the shoes it sourced in 2017 came from Vietnam. Meanwhile, shoes from China made up 19% of the total.
