Speaking at a press briefing on the second day of the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (Titas), he said he was confident a solution to this problem could be found, urging Taiwanese companies working in this field to look to tech giants like Apple for guidance and direction.
Mr Huang highlighted the new smart textile pavilion that is making its debut at this year’s exhibition. It brings together textiles and electronics, two of Taiwan’s most important sectors. It is hoped this zone will bring together companies from these two sectors and Mr Huang called on those from the electronics industry to support textile groups as they seek to develop smart clothing.
Responding to a question from sportstextiles about whether there were any plans for formal ties between TTF and equivalent groups in the electronics sector, he said the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI), which occupied its own pavilion at Titas 2018, was working on connecting textile and electronics companies so that they can launch joint research and development projects.
TTRI was also responsible for the launch in 2017 of the Taiwan Smart Textiles Association (TSTA). This organisation’s primary activity is to promote the development of smart textiles as part of the national government’s economic strategy. It also holds seminars and academic forums dedicated to this topic.
