It launched this fibre, which it calls Nullarbor, at the end of 2017. It is made using waste products from wine and beer, namely naturally-occurring bacteria.
The garment, a sweater, was created using state-of-the-art 3D knit technology. Nanollose said its fibre performed well and successfully withstood the industrial manufacturing process. It added that the fibre, fabric and garment were produced using standard industrial equipment currently used by textile and clothing manufacturers.
The company described the garment as “a significant step” and said its creation proves that the technology could offer a “commercially viable, eco-friendly manufacturing solution for the clothing industry”.
