The product in question was the company’s new ‘Bio’ insulation, which it unveiled at the end of October. PrimaLoft says it is the first synthetic insulation made from 100% recycled, biodegradable fibres.
The judging panel, which included a range of respected industry figures, also selected a further eleven products as award winners. They based their decision on a variety of factors, including concept, design, functionality, originality, sustainability and impact.
The other winners included:
• Allbirds, for its Sweetfoam material, an EVA resin derived from sugarcane;
• Black Diamond Equipment, for its JetForce Pro adventure backpack;
• GoLite, for its ReGreen Windshell jacket, made from recycled materials;
• Tecnica, for its Plasma S customisable moulded hiking shoe;
• Crescent Moon Snowshoes, for a range of snow shoes made from an EVA foam;
• United by Blue, for a puffer jacket featuring insulation that contains bison fibre.
“A huge congratulations to PrimaLoft and all of the first winners of the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards,” said Marisa Nicholson, Outdoor Retailer vice president and show director. “Innovation has always been at the core of our industry and is driven by the desire to make the outdoor experience more joyful and to encourage others to participate. These 12 winners took that inspiration and created something that can transform an outdoor experience and improve our relationship with the natural environment.”
