A new initiative has begun in Brazil to increase organic cotton farming there. The C&A Foundation, a charitable organisation set up by the fashion retail group to “transform the fashion industry”, is supporting the initiative, working alongside an aid agency called Diaconia, research body Embrapa Algodão and the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS).

Over the next two years, the initiative will aim to help around 800 farming families in seven Brazilian states start producing organic cotton.

According to Embrapa Algodão, less than 0.1% of Brazilian cotton production is organic.
