Greens dominant new Clariant colour forecast guide

Textile and plastics chemicals manufacturer Clariant has published a new edition of its ColorForward colour forecasting guide. This, the fourteenth edition of the guide, highlights colours the company believes will be in demand in 2020.

While consumer preferences have been trending toward warmer tones in recent years, Clariant has said, color-trend watchers see a shift to cooler blues and greens in 2020. Of the 20 colours in the guide, five are different shades of green, some genuine and natural looking, the chemicals manufacturer has said, while others seem “more artificial or digital”.

A range of reds, yellows and oranges provide some warmth, often bright and, in many cases, translucent or “tuned up” with special effect pigments.

“There are a lot of things going on in the world these days,” said ColorForward team leader, Judith van Vliet at the time of publication. “Not all of them are negative, but the sheer volume of ideas, images and information confronting us, and the speed at which it comes at us, can seem overwhelming. Instead of trying to escape, which often seems impossible, people are seeking ways to harden themselves as a sort of emotional self-defence.”
