Sports sector backs WHO targets on inactivity
The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) has welcomed targets announced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to reduce inactivity among adults.

In June 2018, WHO published a new action plan on physical activity and it met in Switzerland with representatives of the sports sector in early December to discuss what “effective action” it can put in place to help make the plan a reality.

WHO said in the action plan that its ambition is to reduce physical inactivity by 15% by 2030 but it added a new target at the December meeting, saying it wants to achieve a 10% reduction in physical activity in adults and adolescents by 2025.

WFSGI’s head of external affairs, Emma Mason, who attended the meeting, said afterwards: “This  was a unique opportunity to engage with other sports sector representatives and WHO to discuss the challenges represented by the physical inactivity pandemic, the benefits of collaboration and the possible ways we can move forward to ensure more people are more physically active more often.”
