Conditional green light for BASF’s polyamide acquisition

18/01/2019
The European Commission has given conditional clearance for BASF to acquire Solvay’s polyamide business. BASF expects to close the deal in the second half of 2019.

Conditions include selling some components of the Solvay’s polyamide business in Europe (manufacturing assets and innovation capabilities) to a third party for competition reasons. BASF told the European Commission that this divestment process began in the fourth quarter of 2018.

With this move, BASF has said it will strengthen its polyamide 6.6 business significantly, complementing its plastics portfolio, enhancing access to key growth markets in Asia and South America as well as strengthening the value chain through backward integration into key raw materials such as ADN (adipodinitrile).
