Growth for Portuguese district’s technical textile exports

One of the principal textile producing areas of Portugal, Vila Nova de Famalicão, brought in export revenues of almost €125 million for its technical textiles in 2017, according to figures published recently by the country’s national statistics agency, INE.

Industry leaders in Vila Nova de Famalicão have said that exports of textiles with some technical functionality achieved growth of more than 24% between 2013 and 2017.

The district has 827 textile manufacturers, employing a combined workforce of 11,245 people. In total, these companies turned over €812 million in 2017 and achieved export revenues, from all types of textiles of €475 million. This is almost 10% of Portugal’s total textile exports.
