UNEP mourns air crash victims

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has issued a statement to say that many of the 157 victims of a plane crash on March 10 in Ethiopia were employees of various UN agencies, a large number of them travelling to attend the 2019 UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi.

The aircraft was to fly from Addis Ababa to Nairobi but crashed soon after take-off.

UNEP said: “We lost UN staff, youth delegates travelling to the assembly, seasoned scientists, members of academia and other partners.”
