AATCC names Millson Award winner

12/04/2019
The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) has announced Dr Patrick Gruber as the 2019 winner of its Millson Award for invention.

Dr Gruber, now chief executive of renewables company Gevo, won the award for his earlier work on a method for producing polylactic acid (PLA) from plant-based products. This work, which he carried out during his career at Cargill, led to the development of renewable raw materials for plastic production, which has reduced the textile industry’s dependence on petrochemicals.

On accepting the award, Dr Gruber paid tribute to Cargill and to the people he worked with there.

AATCC’s Millson Award is named after dye chemistry specialist Henry Millson.
