Fibre recycling firm to scale up production after H&M invests

IFC uses technology first developed by Finland’s technical textile research institute, VTT, to turn used clothing into what it calls “new and better cotton”. The technology process separates fibres from textiles (it can also use agricultural waste and some packaging as raw material), turns the fibre into liquid and then turns the liquid into new fibres. IFC says it can do this “over and over again”.
It is currently running a pilot plant near the city of Espoo with an annual capacity of 50 tonnes. It plans to increase production to 500 tonnes per year to meet growing demand from the market.
