Sock shoe claims advantages for skiers
US company Ventex has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund what it calls an “affordable waterproof sock shoe that incorporates all the benefits of an outdoor shoe”.

Drymile footwear “combines rain boots and sneakers” into a single product that can fold up like a sock.
Rick Chi, founder of Ventex, was inspired to create the socks after a ski trip to Japan, when he changed out of heavy snow boots.

"The problem with walking around with socks is that they didn't have soles, so it was painful when I stepped on tough terrain," he explained. "Even though the water didn't penetrate my waterproof socks, the socks were still wet on the outside, so when I try to put my boots back on it was very difficult and uncomfortable.

"All the minimalist shoes or sock shoes on the market are all dedicated to summer or dry weather wear and are vulnerable to water penetration. We can keep sock shoes lightweight, minimalist, waterproof, breathable and all-weather."

At the time of going to press, the company had raised £3,300 of a target £7,700.
