New Hoka running shoe to debut during world record attempt
02/05/2019
Hoka-sponsored ultrarunners taking part in the bid will include Jim Walmsley, Patrick Reagan, Tyler Andrews and Mike Wardian. Each will attempt to run 100 kilometres inside the existing record time of 6:09:14, set last year by Japanese athlete Nao Kazami.
Shoes made by the footwear company, which is part of Deckers Brands, were first embraced by competitive ultrarunners because of their high levels of cushioning and stability. Today the shoes are designed to meet the running, walking and fitness needs of a wide variety of users, the brand says.
Its Carbon X is “engineered to propel athletes to their best performance”. It has what vice-president of product, Gretchen Weimer, calls “an extraordinary weight-to-cushion ratio”. She has said that wearing the shoe will help runners “feel like they can fly”.
