Adidas may put a deposit on sports shoes
Board member responsible for global brands at adidas, Eric Liedtke, has said the sports company is considering trying to apply Germany’s famous ‘Pfandsystem’ to sports shoes.

Pfand, which means ‘deposit’, is something consumers in Germany are used to paying for a wide range of products, including plastic and glass bottles.

In recent comments, Mr Liedtke said adidas was considering charging a returnable deposit of €10 on a pair of shoes to encourage customers to return them when they finish with them to allow the company to recycle the material into new products.
