Trekker completes Yangtze River marathon
Welsh adventurer Ash Dykes completed a trek along the entire course of the Yangtze River in China on August 12. Mr Dykes spent 352 days following the course of the river on foot, a walk of almost 6,500 kilometres.

He started last summer 5,100 metres up in the Jianggendiru Glaciers in the Tibetan Plateau where the river rises; the Yangtze has the highest source of any major river system in the world. His walk took him through ancient forests and high mountain passes and included encounters with bears and wolves. The route also took him through major cities including Chongqing, Jiujiang, Wuhan and Nanjing.

He reached his destination, the point at which the river flows into the East China Sea a little to the north of Shanghai, on August 12 and claimed a world record as the first person to complete the trek on foot.
