New face fabric is 60 times more durable, Arc’teryx claims
Outdoor brand Arc’teryx has presented what it calls its “most durable, insulated climbing jacket to date”, the Proton LT Hoody, using a new, proprietary face fabric, Fortius Air 20.

Arc’teryx said years of development have gone into Fortius Air 20, adding that it had undertaken this development work because “the industry standard fabric was not good enough”. The brand’s in-house materials research and development team worked with designers and fabric producers to “push beyond the industry standards of breathability without compromising on durability”.

Its claim is that the new fabric has shown itself to be more than 60 times more durable in abrasion tests than the industry standard. It is also light and open enough to be air permeable

Climbing and snowsports will be ideal activities for wearing the Proton LT, the brand said.
