Temperatures can be seven degrees lower with Toray’s Summer Shield

Fibre group Toray has developed fabric called Summer Shield, which, it says, blocks 100% of light and more than 99% of harmful ultraviolet rays.

The product contains a white film to reflect ultraviolet light and a black film to block visible and infrared light. Possible applications include hats, as well as umbrellas and baby stroller covers.

Toray has said the temperature under canopy shelters incorporating Summer Shield is 4°C to 7°C lower than with conventional fabrics.
