Performance increase at ASICS run with Glideride
23/09/2019
The Glideride shoe incorporates Guildsole technology, which has been scientifically proven in research conducted by Progressive Sports to reduce energy loss at the ankle joint.
Twenty-two runners took part in the event, which took place at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and was attended by sports scientist Samuele Macora, ASCIS Runkeeper data analysts, elite coaches and the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS).
Prior to the run, participants logged a series of runs via the ASICS Runkeeper app integrated with Garmin 245 devices, to establish their optimal pace, perceived level of effort and predicted distance. Each runner then ran the race for as long as they could while being monitored.
The data captured was then analysed by sports scientist Samuele Marcora from the University of Bologna, and revealed an average improvement of 24% as the runners went further than their predicted times and distances.
Professor Marcora said: “What was interesting to see was the difference between what runners thought was possible versus the actual results in terms of the time and distance they could run. Mental and physical barriers can have a powerful effect on performance and this new format has really shown that we can often go further than we imagine.”
The Glideride footwear will be available globally from September 27.
