New lease of life for Lycra’s fibre waste

24/09/2019
Lycra has launched a new product called EcoMade fibre, which it is calling the first branded elastane made with pre-consumer content.

The company will use Lycra fibre waste from its own production sites to make the new product, recycling waste material that has not previously come into use by consumers. In total, 20% of the content of EcoMade will come from this “pre-consumer content”, Lycra said.

At the time of the announcement, the company tied this new product in with its wider sustainability platform, Planet Agenda, saying that the programme’s first priority is to minimise the waste it generates.

It said it will use EcoMade to make the majority of its Coolmax and Thermolite products by 2021.
