Spanish textile group prepares to launch technical sports brand

Reports from Spain say that one of the country’s largest textile manufacturers, Textil Santanderina, is preparing to launch its own brand of technical sportswear.

Chief executive of the family-owned company, Juan Parés, has said this will be a further step in the steady evolution of Textil Santanderina, explaining that it begun supplying apparel manufacturers outside Spain in the 1990s and then, in the first decade of this century, started making finished apparel at its own facilities on behalf of customers, and now makes 6 million garments a year.

Mr Parés said launching the group’s own brand now was another step along the same road. He added that Textil Santanderina would be able to bring the new brand’s garments to market without treading on the toes of existing customers.

Details that have emerged so far are that the new brand will aim to make team kit for sports such as handball and volleyball and will aim to use Seaqual polyester fibres recycled from ocean waste. Textil Santanderina, along with yarn manufacturer Antex, is one of the main investors in Seaqual.
