Personal protection prospects coax Coats into acquisition

Industrial thread manufacturer Coats has signed a binding agreement to acquire the business and assets of Pharr HP, a manufacturer of high-performance engineered yarns, based in McAdenville, North Carolina.

Pharr HP specialises in providing technical yarns to a variety of markets, including personal protective equipment. Coats said its acquisition of Pharr’s manufacturing capabilities and customer base would help it grow its existing personal protection business (part of the performance materials segment of the UK-based group).

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to complete in early 2020.
