France’s textile industries union (UIT) has named Vanessa de Saint-Blanquat as its new director general. She will take up the role at the start of January, succeeding Emmanuelle Butaud-Stubbs.

A former lawyer and university lecturer, Ms de Saint-Blanquat said at the time of the announcement that she would work to create a favourable business environment for the 2,200 companies that make up the French textile industry and that face what she called numerous economic and social challenges.

She said that its ability to combine tradition and innovation makes the textile sector unique and added that the time has come now for it to add its weight to a wider conversation about business in France and to make itself attractive to talented, young employees.
