Moncler plays down Kering speculation
06/12/2019
High-end winter clothing brand Moncler has issued a statement to play down suggestions that luxury group Kering is poised to acquire it.
With origins in the French Alps, Moncler was founded in 1953. It invented and developed the classic down jacket to protect its own workers from the cold. In 2003, Milan-based entrepreneur Remo Ruffini acquired Moncler and has worked since then to propel the brand into the world of luxury goods and high fashion.
In the statement concerning potential interest from Kering, Mr Ruffini said that he has maintained frequent contact with investors and other “sector participants”, including Kering. He said the purpose of this contact is to explore “strategic potential opportunities to further promote the successful development of Moncler”.
He insisted, however, that there is no concrete offer under consideration.
