Wool-recycled polyester yarns to come from Südwolle-Itochu tie-up

Commenting on the development, Südwolle’s director of product management and innovation, Stéphane Thouvay, said: “Investing in the circular economy is no longer an option for the fashion industry, it is a must.”
He said the textile sector has to develop technical solutions, new services and partnerships to address the challenges of textile waste and recycling.
The partners explained the Renu will provide the positive aspects of synthetics, such as durability and abrasion-resistance, whereas wool will contribute to comfort with its thermo-regulating and moisture-managing attributes, as well as a soft hand touch.
Japanese textile and apparel group Itochu uses a proprietary depolymerisation and refining process to produce Renu. This includes removing colours from used textiles so that the recycled material is as dyeable as virgin polyester.
