Altra announces sponsorship of two pregnant athletes

Ms Montaño, who is expecting her third child, is a six-time US national champion, world championship medalist and Olympian. Ms Muir, expecting her second child, is an international elite runner for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and a podcast host.
Altra says that, in addition to their accomplishments on the track and road, both women “have powerful voices and have helped forge positive change for women and mothers through their stories and activism”.
In 2014, at 34 weeks pregnant with her first child, Ms Montaño ran the 800m in the US Track Championships to advocate for fit pregnancy and combat the negative stereotype of working out while pregnant. In May 2019, she was part of an op-ed about athlete contracts that lacked maternal protection. In response, Altra and other companies added maternal protection to their contracts.
“Changing the industry standards on how we support whole-personhood is exactly what we need in sports,” said Ms Montaño. “Altra truly values the running community and that includes mothers.”
Ms Muir is known by many as the athlete who made the surprising decision to take a break at the peak of her career to get her health back from medical malnutrition — a decision that brought awareness to the issue of amenorrhea, the cessation of menstruation. In 2017, she was voted one of the 21 women changing the running world for the better by Women’s Running magazine, and in 2018, she became the first cover model of a fitness magazine to be featured with a running stroller for Women’s Running UK.
