Lenzing brand Tencel collaborate on eco textiles

Lenzing textile brand Tencel and environmental organisation Red Carpet Green Dress are launching a range of eco-couture textiles, including a luxury textile, a lush silk blend and a rich cashmere fusion.

Unveiled on the red carpet for the 92nd Academy Awards on February 10, the collaboration could be seen in couture gowns worn by actress Léa Seydoux and producer Elena Andreicheva.

The Tencel-Luxe branded filament yarns are of 100% botanic origin and are produced using a renewable wood source, according to Tencel. Made specifically for the high-fashion sector, the yarns will come in a variety of weights with varying mixes of the new yarn.

Textiles will be milled in Asia and available worldwide later this year to emerging and established designers.

“Only a tiny percentage of the leading fashion brands are capable of tracking their garments back to the fibre origin,” said RCGD’s new CEO Samata Pattinson (a British-born Ghanaian fashion designer who is typically known by only her first name, Samata). With this collaboration, “we plan to be part of the movement to make this the norm.”
