Among the new kits are those for USA track and field, USA basketball, and USA, France and Brasil skateboarding.
The 2020 athletics uniform pieces feature a new Nike Dri-FIT Aeroswift material engineered to help manage sweat and feel more comfortable while limiting seams and minimising layers.
While Dri-FIT has long been Nike’s technology for wicking and cooling, Aeroswift has an updated lenticular design that “reimagines colour in an entirely new way by turning static shades into dynamic hues that shift and change while the body is in motion”. The material’s mesh has knitted structures and subtle ridges for breathability and is said to provide 25% more stretch than previous kits.
For basketball kits, the laurel line on the neckline of the US women’s team is a nod to the uniforms worn by the 1996 women’s team in the Atlanta Olympics. There, according to Nike, the team “broke a gold-medal drought and started a dynasty”.
Skateboarding is debuting at this summer’s event, and Nike has introduced kits for athletes representing the US, France and Brasil. Their uniforms are said to be designed with 100% recycled polyester and pattern efficiency for minimal waste. With bright and bold styling designed in collaboration with Dutch artist Parra, Nike said the skateboarding kits are intended to “celebrate each nation’s unique skate culture
