C&A and Rajby Textiles develop platinum-level C2C certification

Denim fabric from German fashion retailer C&A has been given platinum-level Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certification. This means the material properties and production process met the highest-level requirements for the five C2C categories: material health, material reutilisation, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship and social fairness.
Developed in partnership with Rajby Textiles and the Circular Economy advisor Eco Intelligent Growth (EIG), Rajby’s Beluga Denim for C&A is said to be the first fabric certified at this level by the C2C Products Innovation Institute.
According to C&A, the fabric is manufactured with 100 percent rapidly renewable resources, is fully recyclable, and uses Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton fibre. Process water is kept in a closed loop, and the final manufacturing stage is said to be 100% carbon neutral.
“We owe this new success to the initial inspiration of [sustainability expert] William McDonough as well as to the strong spirit of collaboration with our supply chain partner Rajby Textiles Ltd., whose knowledge and determination were instrumental in achieving this breakthrough,” said Jeffrey Hogue, C&A's chief sustainability officer.
Mr Hogue said that, as with C&A’s other circular innovations, the company aims to make its knowledge open source to “create a pathway towards circularity for the industry”.
