Vietnam’s garment makers sit on stockpiles of unwanted orders

Vietnam National Garment and Textile Group (Vinatex) has estimated that if the COVID-19 pandemic was over by May and the global economy recovered in June, the country’s clothing manufacturers would have lost almost $500 million in orders.

With global brands cancelling textiles and clothing orders, Vinatex has asked the government’s permission to convert factories to making medical clothing, face masks and disposable gowns, according to reports in local press.

Vinatex said many companies are sitting on stockpiles of clothing and many people risk losing their jobs.
