Coffee grounds help guard against rays in latest HH collection

British outdoor brand Helly Hansen has released a collection of sun-protective clothing for which recycled coffee grounds have been infused during fibre creation for 50+ UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) protection that can’t be washed out.

The Soren collection is made by combining the brand’s lightweight and hydrophobic LIFA Active with its S.Café technology, the latter of which is made using a low-temperature, high-pressure and energy saving process.

The micro-pores on S.Café coffee grounds are said to absorb odours and maintain the UPF value both when wet and dry, and to dry up to 200% faster compared with cotton. The technology is also said to remove the need for chemical treatments that can negatively affect the environment.
